Our Approach

The ‘Reggio Emilia’ Approach

At Acacia Hill our philosophy and curriculum has been heavily influenced by the Reggio Emilia Approach.

This approach is a very ‘child friendly’ way of educating children, allowing them to just ‘be’ children and to enjoy their world surrounding them.  In building your child’s education we have adapted and focused on four key elements from the Reggio Approach which fit wonderfully in the Australian context and suit the milestones of the early years.

Children must have some control over the direction of their learning.

Children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, listening, seeing and hearing.

Children have a relationship with other children, materials and items in the world that they can explore.

Children must have endless ways and opportunities to express themselves.

In making these 4 elements successful in our curriculum we must ensure we focus on the role of the educator; the way we document the children’s learning; the environment we provide for the children and the collaboration we have between the children, their families, the educators and the community.
